Assignment Details

Our client, an American foundation is looking to engage with a Strategy Consultant with strong analytical, private sector, stakeholder management, and communication skills to design and operationalize scalable social-impact partnerships.

 

Scope of Work:  

  • Analyze multiple private sector models, particularly in sectors including healthcare (like menstrual health, malaria, nutrition), agriculture (with a focus on emerging ideas like voluntary carbon markets), and women’s economic empowerment, to understand their current impact, potential for scale, key bottlenecks, and role of the foundation in their development vis-à-vis other stakeholders in the ecosystem.  
  • Explore emerging startups, innovations, business models, and financing instruments that can potentially unlock large impact in the foundation’s priority areas 
  • Identify private sector models that are necessary to complement public goods in priority areas to solve certain structural constraints and realize our impact goals; determine value that needs to be delivered to each stakeholder in the ecosystem necessary to achieve sustainability.  
  • Lead analysis of proposed strategic pivots to ensure their programmatic viability, cost effectiveness, and fit for purpose.  
  • Profile new potential partners for the Foundation.
  • Support the translation of approved strategies into execution plans. 

The overarching goal of the private sector strategy is to drive inclusive and gender transformative evolution of private sector ecosystem & mobilize pro-poor opportunities at scale through direct collaboration with private sector players as well as advocacy with relevant ecosystem stakeholders. 

 

  • Comprehensive private sector strategy and execution plan developed across identified sectors and areas of focus. 
  • Landscaping of private sector players in focus areas to aid partnership and collaboration in priority areas and developing ideas for engaging with firms to achieve key goals.
  • Documenting intersection between foundation strategy and strategies of private sector players in focus sectors.
  • Landscape of financing instruments and strategies to catalyze capital and partnerships in focus areas. Profiling of DFIs, social impact funds, impact investors, and foundations to understand opportunities for co-funding and collaborative instruments.

  • Ability to absorb and quickly distill large amounts of information and complex challenges and effectively communicate it though succinct conceptual frameworks and presentation materials
  • Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for understanding complex challenges and systems
  • Strong quantitative skills, including comfort with analyzing data and modeling with data gaps and uncertainties
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, especially with technical experts
  • Ability to work effectively and with sensitivity across barriers such as language, culture, and distance
  • Ability to influence without formal authority
  • Outstanding written skills, in particular writing prose in addition to slides
