Our client, a social-sector advisory firm, is looking to engage with a Consultant - Natural Resource Management.
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate/Consultant with thematic expertise in primary sectors of the economy such as agriculture, water, forestry, livestock, and fisheries. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of cross-cutting aspects including climate change, livelihoods, institutional development, and conservation. This position demands a professional with advanced skills in literature review, data analysis, writing, presentation preparation, and conceptualization, meeting the standards of top consulting firms.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct in-depth literature reviews and research on thematic areas such as agriculture, water, forestry, livestock, and fisheries with cross-cutting focus on conservation, livelihoods, value chains, climate change, gender etc.
2. Analyze qualitative and quantitative data for evaluations and to support project development and implementation.
3. Prepare high-quality reports, briefs, and presentations.
4. Conceptualize and articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement strategies that address climate change, improve livelihoods, and promote natural resource conservation.
6. Strategize development and strengthening of institutions related to the primary sectors.
7. Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners, to ensure successful project execution.
Thematic Expertise/Experience:
1. Agriculture: Knowledge of sustainable farming practices, crop management, and agricultural economics.
2. Water: Expertise in water resource management, irrigation systems, and water conservation techniques.
3. Forestry: Understanding of forest management, afforestation, and reforestation practices.
4. Livestock: Experience in animal husbandry, veterinary practices, and livestock production systems.
5. Fisheries: Knowledge of sustainable fishing practices, aquaculture, and marine conservation.
6. Cross-Cutting Aspects: Experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation, livelihoods improvement, institutional development, and conservation strategies.
Skills:
1. Literature Review: Ability to conduct comprehensive reviews of academic and policy literature to inform assignments.
2. Data Analysis: Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative data analysis, using tools such as Excel, SPSS, R, or Python.
3. Writing and Presentation: Excellent writing skills for producing clear and concise reports, briefs, and other documentation. Ability to create compelling presentations using PowerPoint or other software.
4. Articulation and Conceptualization: Strong ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts effectively to diverse audiences. Proven experience in conceptualizing and developing innovative project ideas.
5. Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
6. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.
7. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on practical and sustainable solutions.
Qualifications:
A Master's degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., Agriculture, Rural Management, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Economics, or related disciplines).
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a related field, preferably with a focus on the primary sectors and cross-cutting themes.
Proven track record of working in a consulting environment, with experience at top consulting firms being highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
