Our client, an Indian non-profit organization, is looking for a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer with strong expertise in building robust data pipelines with ETL/ELT using open-source technologies. The ideal candidate is proficient in Python and SQL-based databases, has exposure to NoSQL solutions like Cassandra, and brings a continuous improvement mindset to the data and product infrastructure. This role will also involve mentoring junior team members and coordinating with external stakeholders to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities:
● Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines using open-source tools,
preferably with Python and MySQL.
● Optimize and manage complex SQL queries across MySQL, MS-SQL, or PostgreSQL for
high performance and reliability.
● Implement and maintain NoSQL solutions such as Cassandra, or similar distributed data
stores, for high-availability systems.
● Develop data engineering solutions that support real-time and batch data processing
needs of analytics and product teams.
● Ensure high data quality and consistency across various sources, and implement
monitoring and alerting mechanisms for data flows.
● Collaborate closely with Product, Analytics, and Development teams to understand data
needs and build efficient data solutions.
● Constantly innovate by proposing and integrating emerging technologies and practices to
improve product design, usability, performance, and data scalability.
● Monitor project milestones and deliverables. Raise alerts and develop risk mitigation
plans for potential roadblocks or delays.
● Coordinate and manage work with external vendors/partners, ensuring adherence to
technical specifications and quality standards.
● Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior data engineers and analysts;
oversee recruitment, training, and performance evaluations within the data team
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data
Engineering, or related field.
● 5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of
building and maintaining scalable data pipelines.
● Strong experience in Python (or Java) for data processing and workflow automation.
● Proficient in MySQL, MS-SQL, and/or PostgreSQL, with solid query optimization skills.
● Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (Cassandra preferred).
● Experience in data modeling, ETL/ELT pipeline design, and integration with analytics
platforms.
● Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
● Experience in version control systems like Git, CI/CD workflows, and cloud platforms
(AWS/GCP/Azure).
● Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to both
technical and non-technical stakeholders.
● Strong project management capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and
stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
● Experience with big data ecosystems (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) is a plus.
● Exposure to workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow or Prefect.
● Familiarity with containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes) is an advantage.
● Experience in implementing data governance and security practices
