Assignment Details

This is a unique opportunity to be a key team member in driving transformational change in resource project design, construction and operation.

The independent consultant would be supervised and coached by an ex McKinsey Partner. The consultant will be working alongside very technical and experienced engineers, however the client specifically wants someone not like the rest of the team. The client is looking for a smart, dynamic, pragmatic, transformational thinker who thrives on pushing executable solutions

An Australian mining company is looking for a consultant to be part of a small but high powered team that works alongside the feasibility study team to challenge conventional thinking and enable a step change in value.

There will be 3 core initiatives in parallel - Fast-track Construction, Post-Construction Workforce and Optimizing energy. This project deals with the Post-Construction Workforce initiative.

The focus of the initiative is to identify ways to reduce the operational workforce of the mine via automation and workforce productivity, achieve higher efficiency and build an empowered, engaged workforce.

The twin objectives are 1) productivity/cost reduction and 2) safety. Context: as an ongoing business, this will be much more of a chemical plant than a mine.

The first emphasis in this piece is on eliminating steady-state operations labour in the “chemical plant”. Notionally, we are looking at the plant being in steady-state operation 85% of the time. To make that possible, the workforce needs to be very effective as well as very efficient in the remaining 15% of the 8,760 hours that we receive in the average year. Maintenance and logistics procedures in particular have to support the 85% availability of the HPAL and the 100% reliability-when-called-upon for the rest of the plant, mine and general infrastructure.

The consultant may deliver the project remotely however at least two trips to Perth, Australia will be required. The duration of the project is 3-6 months and will require 50-100% capacity during the period.

Skills Required

• Capability to challenge conventional thinking
• Solid experience in executing change management projects
• An engineering degree from a premier institute
• 6-7 years of consulting experience at a top tier firm or a leading MNC
